‘Trash to Treasure’ programme launched

A programme known as “Trash to Treasure” has been launched here.

St Vincent and the Grenadines’ official involvement in the programme, which is an effort of the Fuel Vision Organization, was made public on June 28 at the Grassroot Tennis Club’s headquarters at Murray’s Road.{{more}}

Describing the programme, Precious Abraham, one member of the local committee, told the press: “It encourages the maintenance of eco friendly environment, so instead of discarding, we’re reusing for repurpose.

“It is just about creativity and we are encouraging youths between the ages 8 to 25 to come on board and to sign up at a cost of $25, with forms available at Kismet and at Subway outlets in Kingstown and must be returned by 30th July this year,” she added.

Abraham noted that her organization will be in different communities mainly in Kingstown, Layou, Barrouallie, Georgetown, Mesopotamia, as well as in the Grenadines, to promote the programme.

Meanwhile, items to be judged must be made of 100 per cent discarded /recyclable materials and must not be larger than 3 feet x 3 feet and less than 20 pounds.

Abraham stated that the general public will be involved in selection of the winning pieces.

“First, second and third places will go into the competition October, around independence time and will be competing for prizes like trips, scholarship, cash rewards,” Abraham explained.

Local winners will progress to the regional and possibly the international phases.

Abraham noted that similar programmes are getting started in Nigeria, Guinea, Jamaica and St Lucia.(RT)
