Reka – ready to make her mark

Ulrica Gaymes could be the next big thing where female performing artistes are concerned.

The 17-year-old little lady with the big voice is taking the local music scene by storm with her tracks “It Lit” and “Born for This,” in only her first outing in the Carnival arena.{{more}}

Under the guidance of Kubiyashi Productions, Reka, as she is known on the stage, has appeared on a number of the major shows and is scheduled to hit more stages before the end of the season, and then move beyond.

A graduating student of the Central Leeward Secondary School, Rica has been very active in academic and extracurricular activities for her school, so it is no surprise that she has amassed such a big following in such a short space of time.

“I placed second runner-up at the Miss Heritage pageant this year, and for my talent I did three songs.

“Then Kubiyashi sent out a blast looking for female singers and after being encouraged by a good bit of people and when I auditioned for them, he said ‘I think we could use her’ and I was so thrilled because I realized I have something special and I have the opportunity to make the best of it.”

Reka said that she is excited and ecstatic to be working along with the top entertainers in the industry, and meeting with the regional artistes at the various shows in which she had performed. She said she hopes that she can learn as much as possible from them in order to get her career going in the right direction.

She said that she is inspired by pop diva Celine Dion and St Vincent and the Grenadines’ very own Skinny Fabulous, and hopes that she, too, can be an inspiration to others.

“Celine Dion sings music that touches the heart and I would like to do that too, and I would love to have the energy and power that Skinny brings to the stage every time he performs.

“I would like to encourage the youngsters out there to stay in school. There are lots of opportunities out here, but they won’t be attainable without education, and you need education to better yourself and to help your parents.

“I’m thankful for the support from the team that has surrounded me and I am hoping that they continue to give me guidance and that I would be able to make the most of my opportunity to entertain and encourage people.”
