Shut-ins, elderly, disabled persons treated to Sunday lunch
Over sixty shut-ins, disabled and elderly persons from Chateaubelair, Petit Bordel and surrounding areas gathered at the Golden Grove Learning Resource Centre in Chateaubelair on Sunday, June 19, for a luncheon which was hosted by the Petit Bordel Police Youth Club and funded by Digicel SVG.
Coordinator of the youth club Corporal Mark Billy said the event, which is the first of its kind for the club, was designed to show the targetted group that they are valued not only by their family, but also by the persons in the wider community.{{more}} Corporal Billy added that the exercise was also used to help the youth club members foster a greater appreciation of their individual lives, by giving them a first-hand view of the different circumstances under which persons live.
Moreover, the police corporal said that the luncheon was another way for the Petit Bordel Police Youth Club to give back to the North Leeward community, while teaching the youth to be kind, and to show love, respect and appreciation for the elderly.
Corporal Billy described the event as a huge success and lauded Digicel SVG for its financial support, which made the event possible.
The four-hour event got started at 12:30 and ended at 4:30 in the afternoon. Among the main highlights of the day were the presentation of motivational speeches by the elderly, the worship and entertainment sessions.
The funding for Sundayâs luncheon forms part of a collaborative effort between Digicelâs Carnival Monday T-shirt band, Temperature and Digicelâs Community Outreach Programme (Digicel C.O.R.P), the arm of Digicel SVG that is focused specifically on giving back and enhancing the lives of Vincentians and also improving the environment in which they live and work.
Digicelâs country manager John Gidharry said the telecoms company prides itself on the development of the people it serves and welcomes every opportunity to give back to all Vincentians in very meaningful ways.
Additionally, Gidharry commended the Petit Bordel Police Youth Club for conceptualizing such a project, geared at not only showing appreciation to the elderly and the less fortunate among us, but also a project that teaches the youth the importance of being compassionate, patient, loving and kind.
