‘Mason’ – a man on a mission

Roshik Mason is a man on a mission.

The artiste, who performs under his surname, intends to create a genre of music that others would ultimately emulate, as he continues to take the entertainment world by storm, one song at a time.

Although the Union Island native burst on the scene last year with his hit song “In Yuh…”, Mason has been in the music industry for almost half of his 21 years of existence.{{more}}

“I was doing this thing since I was 12 years old. I remember my first ever performance was at Eagles Nest in Union Island when I performed over a dancehall riddim, and from then I got hooked,” Mason recalls.

“I feel like I was born to do this.”

The music bug didn’t just leave Mason with a knack for singing. It gave him a fever for the various aspects of music and soon saw him dabbling in making the music, as well as singing.

After spending much time in the studios with producers Stadic and Wetty Beatz, Mason took it up on himself to learn the art of producing, and in a short space of time he was skilled in recording, producing and mastering his own music.

“I really look up to these guys and others, along with the artistes such as Bunji Garlin and Michael Jackson, to name a few, and pretty much anyone who has left a mark in music.

“But eventually my aim is to be in a class of my own and have artistes inspired and influenced by the music that I put out,” he stated.

Music lovers who enjoy his 2016 offering for Vincy Mas, “Dem Vincy,” can get to see Mason in action at most, if not all of the shows taking place during the carnival season, but will have a to wait a while longer before seeing Mason on any competitive stage, as he indicated that he will not be entering the Groovy Soca Monarch competition this year.

“Right now, that is not where my head is at. I’m not into no competition thing. I’m into making the music and pleasing the fans.

“Maybe I’ll consider competing in the future, but for right now I’m focusing on the music and looking to break barriers.”

Mason says that this year has been great thus far; having one of the top songs of the season, and signing a deal with furniture, appliance, electronics and eyewear supplier Courts St Vincent Limited, with the hook of his song transformed into the company’s carnival promotion jingle.

Mason has also teamed up with producer Alex “Kubiyashi” Barnwell and his group of artistes, who like him, are poised to take the music world by storm.

“I must say special thanks to Kubyashi and his team. They are like family to me; they are pointing me in the right direction and it’s all good.

“I must also thank Courts, and all the fans that have been supporting me in this journey and I hope that they will continue to follow as I continue to make the music for them.”

Mason will be on stage at H2O and Soca on the Beach, to name a few, and has also been booked for a number of overseas engagements.
