Woman needs justice for four-year-old daughter
It has been more than a year since her daughter was killed in a motor vehicle accident at Georgetown and Carrol Abbott would like to know why the matter has not yet been heard in court.
According to reports, at about 1:40 p.m. on April 20, 2015, Mykayla Abbott succumbed to injuries at the Georgetown hospital, after being involved in an accident with a passenger van as she was about to enter the vehicle. The little girl became the 12th road fatality for 2015.{{more}}
The door of the passenger van reportedly struck Mykayla as the van moved, just as she and the conductor were about to board. It has also been reported that one of the rear wheels of the minivan rolled over the child after she was struck to the ground by the door.
A post mortem report revealed that Mykayla died as a result of head injuries.
Abbott visited SEARCHLIGHT yesterday and said since the incident, there have been no court hearings.
âI need them to speed up this, because itâs time enough,â she said.
Abbott claimed that she followed up with the police at Georgetown, who told her that they were waiting on the Director of Public Prosecutions to proceed.
âI donât know why they waiting on all that so long and other cases hearing. Iâm not pleased, Iâm not pleased about that,â said the 41-year-old woman.
She also expressed her dissatisfaction with the fact that the man who was driving the van in question is still operating his van in Georgetown.
âIt is not an easy situation seeing this van going up and down and heâs the same person driving the van. Heâs still on the road and itâs not fair.â
Abbott, who said she bore the financial burden of burying her daughter alone, told SEARCHLIGHT that neither the van driver nor members of his family have said anything to her since her daughterâs death.
âNo family for him come and say âWhatâs going on?â or âIâm sorry about what happen,ââ she said.
âNobody speaking to me since it happen. Everybody keeping me malice,â she continued.
The Byera resident also revealed that a picture of her daughter has helped her to cope with her death.
âI put a picture of her next to a picture of her grandfather and that make me feel a little better, but not seeing her breaks my heart,â she said, with tears streaming down her face.
âJust God alone I put my trust in. Since that happen, me just leave everything to God. God knows what happened. I need justice to be done.â(CA)
