Publishing election petition notices not my responsibility – PM

Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves says the failure to publish the notices for the hearing of the election petitions has nothing to do with him.

Speaking at the Unity Labour Party’s 22nd annual convention at the Campden Park Secondary School on Sunday, the Prime Minister pointed out that despite the accusation that he doesn’t want the case to be heard, he actually cannot wait for the case to be tried.{{more}}

“I don’t publish those things; that is the registrar. The registrar was not around and that is the responsibility of the deputy registrar,” Gonsalves said.

He also stated that a notice had been placed in the Government Gazette; however, none had been published in the newspaper.

“The person who is responsible for doing it and didn’t do it, they would have to explain to the Attorney General what was the reason for their negligence and their administrative inefficiency and the steps to be taken, if any steps are required to be taken,” he said.

“But that has nothing to do with me, that has nothing to do with the Government. That’s an administrative matter,” Gonsalves added. (CM)
