Opposition Leader to take legal action against ‘Bing’ Joseph

Leader of the Opposition Arnhim Eustace has signalled his intention to bring legal action against radio talk show host Dwight ‘Bing’ Joseph and the radio station Boom 106.9 FM.

The Opposition Leader, while speaking as a guest on the Hot 97.1 AM Mayhem show yesterday, said statements made by Joseph last week that he was ‘selling senatorship’ is completely false.{{more}}

“I will be taking legal action against Bing Joseph for the statements he has made, the nasty statements that he has made and against Boom,” Eustace stated.

Last Wednesday, the New Democratic Party (NDP) said in a release that comments made by Joseph were “not only mischievous, but outright defamatory” of Eustace.

The next day, Joseph offered an apology, saying: “I am pleased to be made aware of the facts put out in the release yesterday concerning the surrender of salary as senator by Dr Lewis which was not explained by Dr Lewis to me in that interview. I apologize again to Mr Eustace for any inconvenience that may have been caused by me in the statements of sale of senatorship.”

“I am not interested in any apology,” Eustace noted, on radio yesterday.

“I am going to deal with the comments by Mr Joseph through the court.”

Joseph’s reference to the sale of senatorship came after chair of the NDP, Dr Linton Lewis, said in an interview on Boom FM that he had been asked by Eustace to donate his parliamentary salary to the NDP. Eustace has denied this, saying Lewis “magnanimously offered to assign his entire salary” to two teachers who had unsuccessfully run for the NDP in the 2010 General Elections, but were not re-hired by the Government.
