FLOW to issue release on rate increase

Corey Garrett, Communications and Marketing manager of FLOW, says that his company would respond to concerns that the telecommunications provider hiked its fees without informing customers.

When contacted by SEARCHLIGHT yesterday, Garrett said that he was at the moment in the process of preparing a statement “that will clear all concerns” raised by a document that has been making the rounds in the media.{{more}}

Garrett, who indicated that he had not seen the document, but had an idea about its contents based on what he had heard, said that the statement would be issued by Wednesday, at the latest.

The document, which was also copied to the Ministry of Trade and Consumer Protection and the National Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (NTRC), has accused FLOW of increasing its fees by as much as 20 per cent per channel, and alleges that these increased rates have not been advertised.

It also alleges that popular channels have been blocked, or packaged into valueless bundles that the consumers would now have to pay extra for in order to view those channels.

The unsigned document is calling for a review of the new rates by the relevant authorities, as well as a return of the old basic channels and cable box.

“These new boxes are much slower than the Karib Cable boxes, and inferior in many ways,” the document states.

“The document says that consumers were not aware of the increases, and is also calling on the relevant government authorities and NTRC to intervene.
