Cecil and Naomi Browne Memorial Foundation donates reading materials to LVGS, BCK

Students at the Lodge Village Government School (LVGS) and the Bishop’s College Kingstown (BCK) were both recipients of reading materials from the Cecil and Naomi Browne Memorial Foundation last month.

The foundation, set up in memory of the Browne family matriarch and patriarch, who both passed away in March 2014, handed over a quantity of books, including thesauruses, to the library of the Lodge Village Government School, and toys to the kindergarten class.{{more}}

A number of non-fiction books were also presented to the library of the Bishop’s College Kingstown, as part of the Foundation’s commitment towards uplifting literacy in St Vincent and the Grenadines.

The presentations to the schools were made by Peronia Browne, who indicated that the Foundation was happy to make the contribution to the schools’ reading programmes, since her grandparents strongly believed that education was the foundation for a strong family and nation, and that reading was the first step.

Representatives from both schools thanked the foundation for the gesture, and guaranteed that the books would be put to good use.

The Cecil and Naomi Memorial Foundation intends to make similar contributions to other institutions in the near future, in an effort to promote literacy and community spirit throughout St Vincent and the Grenadines.

The Foundation hosts an annual Christmas party for children in Chester Cottage and surrounding villages annually, as part of its community outreach.
