Zanthe Bascombe

This 10-year-old attends the Kingstown Preparatory School, and cites her favourite gymnastic event as the bars, because they allow her to develop a lot of skills. Zanthe used to attend dance classes as well, but has since stopped. Her favourite food is pizza.

Chiamaka Jackson

Nine-year-old Chiamaka attends the St Mary’s Roman Catholic Primary School, and considers her role model to be World Champion gymnast Simone Biles. She most enjoys doing bars and beams because they allow her to do a lot fun and varied choreography. In her spare time, Chiamaka also participates in tae-kwondo and swimming; and her favourite food is macaroni and cheese.

Abigail de Shong

The 10-year-old is a student of Windsor Primary School. The highlight of her trip to Houston (Texas) was getting to meet American World Champion Simone Biles. She was also very impressed with the size of the gym that the team practised in while in the US, and hopes that one day, the Dolphins will have their own gym of that size. Her favourite events are the uneven bars and floor. Abigail also participates in swimming, dancing, music lessons and cooking. Her favourite food is any dish made with shrimp.

Adiah Phillips

Ten-year-old Adiah Phillips attends the St Mary’s Roman Catholic School. When she first arrived in Houston to take part in last month’s invitational, she was a bit anxious because the venue was so huge. However, she soon overcame her nerves, and ended up with the highest individual score of the Vincentian athletes. Adiah’s favourite events are the uneven bars and beams. She also takes part in swimming, music lessons, Brownies and athletics. Her favourite food is pizza.

Dakia Child

Eight-year-old Dakia attends the Windsor Primary School. She explained that she found the invitational last month to be “great, but a little bit scary.”

“Even though we didn’t win, I found it to be a great experience.”

She enjoys all the gymnastics events, and said that she finds gymnastics to be quite enjoyable because she gets to learn lots of choreography, and it helps her build muscles. Apart from gymnastics, Dakia also takes drama classes. Her favourite foods are pepperoni pizza and cheesy pasta.

Saskia Truchot

A student of the Sugar Mill Academy, this nine-year-old found competing in Houston (Texas) last month to be “good and weird,” because although she enjoyed participating, it was quite different from what she is used to doing. Saskia enjoys all the gymnastics events, and said that she loves the sport because it keeps you slim and strong. In her spare time she also takes piano lessons; and her favourite food is cheesy pasta from Grand View Grill.
