Ministry of Education begins series of school visits

St Clair Prince, the new Minister of Education, National Reconciliation and Ecclesiastical Affairs, along with Parliamentary Secretary Deborah Charles, has begun a series of school visits, accompanied by ministry officials.

The team started with schools in North Windward on Tuesday, January 12, visiting schools between Fancy and Sandy Bay. Last Thursday, they visited schools in the Marriaqua area. The visits are intended for the familiarization of the new minister{{more}} St Clair Prince and parliamentary secretary Deborah Charles with principals, teachers and students.

According to Prince, it is important to learn from school principals, as they exercise their role as instructional leaders and manage the day-to-day operation of their schools. He added that great school leaders are important to the delivery of high quality education, and that teachers must feel supported and empowered in their work, in order to give students the chance to reach their full potential.

Prince added that he wants education professionals to understand that the ministry is there to support this and new initiatives in education. The visits are in keeping with the minister’s message at the annual Education Church Service for education professionals to let 2016 be the year for a recommitment to the development of education.

According to ministry officials, there will be more visits in the coming weeks, as it is the intention of the minister and parliamentary secretary to visit all schools throughout the country.
