Graduates meet to plan 2016 Calypso season

Members of the Graduates Calypso Tent met at the Victoria Park on Saturday, January 9 2016 to chart the way forward for the 2016 Calypso season and also to discuss matters relating to functioning of the Calypso Association.

The meeting was chaired by the Tent leader Glenroy “Sulle” Caesar, who gave an update on the activities of 2015.

A release from the Graduates says the tent plans to have an early start for this year and will be looking at areas to develop the whole operations of the tent, which include sponsorship, membership, practice sessions, training of members, finances and calypso development.

Sulle also updated the meeting on the functioning of the SVG Calypso Association and made reference to a meeting held among Tent leaders where a date was proposed for an annual general meeting to be held.

The meeting also discussed the submission/ nomination of persons for possible election to the Calypso Association’s Executive when the Annual General Meeting is convened. The Graduates Calypso Tent is celebrating 33 years of existence, having been formed in 1983 by persons who were previously members of the Calypso Classroom.

Other members present at the meeting were Homey, Lexie, Lord Have Mercy, Chiwale, Jessykiah, Hero, Shaka and Aubrey Burgin.

“The Graduates calypso tent looks forward to a very exciting and fruitful year and one member, Lord Have Mercy, has already released a song which is on the airwaves,” the release said.
