ULP bus attacked

An omnibus transporting supporters of the Unity Labour Party (ULP) to a youth rally in Cumberland over the weekend is said to have been attacked by persons believed to be supporters of the opposition New Democratic Party (NDP).

Prime Minister and party leader Ralph Gonsalves addressed the matter at the youth rally, which took place at the playing field of that North Leeward village.{{more}}

He said a vehicle carrying supporters of the NDP stopped at Belle Isle and the passengers got out.

“…And as the vehicle with the Labour comrades were passing, the NDP brothers and sisters say ‘Labour, look them coming’ and start to pound up on the vehicle,” Gonsalves said.

He added that damage was done to the vehicle’s glass, resulting in splinters flying in the faces of passengers.

“We have to stop these kind of intimidation. As we saw yesterday, intimidation attempted by Eustace (NDP leader) and Kay Bacchus (attorney). What they want to do is stop the young people from voting, but they could never succeed. Your name is on the register. You go out and you vote early.

“They can bring all kind of lawyer they want; they have to stay outside of the hundred yards. And we will photograph them. We will put them under Labour manners,” Gonsalves said.(KW)
