St Mary’s RC School student wins WEFM 2015 Civics Competition

Luke Wilson, a student of the St Mary’s RC School is the 2015 winner of the annual WE FM Civics Competition.

Luke outdid two other finalists last Friday, to emerge winner of the competition, which was aired live from WE FM studios at Lower Questelles.{{more}}

Second place went to Nathaniel Slater, a student of the Clare Valley Government School. In third place was Jave-anna Frank, a student of the Lodge Village Government School.

The students answered various questions relating to National History, Independence and Heritage.

Wilson received an Alcatel Smart Phone from LIME, a meal voucher from Subway, a junior savings account valued at $100 from GECCU and the WE FM/Cecil Ryan challenge trophy, which will remain with the school for one year.

The other participants and teachers also received meal vouchers, compliments Subway and junior savings accounts valued $75 for 2nd place and $50 for third place from GECCU. The winning teacher also received a meal voucher for two from Caribbean Flavour restaurant.

The overall objective of the competition was to build a sense of national pride in the students, as they had to show off their knowledge of St Vincent and the Grenadines.

Organizer of the 2015 Civics Independence Quiz Crystal Bynoe-Greaves, speaking at the presentation of the challenge trophy at the St Mary’s RC school on Wednesday, said that as a community station WE FM prides itself in making sure that programmes such as these are available and continued.

The competition was also held to commemorate this country’s 36th anniversary of political independence from Britain and sought to engender national pride within the participants.
