Man claiming to be Vincentian charged with murder of British couple in Tobago
Up to press time yesterday, confirmation could not be made that a man who was recently charged in connection with a double homicide in Tobago is Vincentian, as has been reported.
Last week, Najiip Hills, 23, who is said to be from St Vincent and the Grenadines, {{more}}was jointly charged, with 29-year-old construction worker from Tobago Andre Romeo, with the murder of a British couple on the island.
Head of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Superintendent Ruth Jacobs told SEARCHLIGHT yesterday that the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) had been asked to confirm Hillsâ nationality, but that information had not yet been received.
According to the Trinidad Guardian, the two men were arrested in Tobago after British lawyer Richard Wheeler, 73, and his Trinidadian wife, Grace, 67, were discovered at their home in the village of Carnbee.
On October 20th, Grace Wheeler was found by a gardener on the lawn with a cut to her neck, while Richard was found by police officers face down in a pool of blood with chop wounds to both arms and the back of the head.
A police statement said: âAn initial assessment suggests robbery as the possible motive as the bedroom and living room areas were ransacked. However, all avenues are being explored and all leads pursued.â
