Take voting seriously by voting for ULP – Caesar

Unity Labour Party (ULP) supporters have been told to get ready for the biggest victory ever achieved by a political party in St Vincent and the Grenadines.

Voters have also been urged to take voting seriously by voting for the ULP on election day.{{more}}

Speaking during the launch of Senator Camillo Gonsalves’ East St George campaign office last week, Minister of Agriculture and ULP South Central Windward candidate Saboto Caesar said that the ULP has improved the lives of Vincentians and continues to do so and that is why they should be returned to Government when the next general elections are called.

“ULP is the best and persons must prepare for the biggest victory ever,” said Caesar on Friday night at the Calliaqua Playing Field.

Caesar encouraged persons who have never voted to take this democratic right seriously, because the decision is one that a person has to live with for the next five years.

“Young voters who never dipped their finger will be dipping for the first time. An election is a serious, serious business, because you are going to make a decision; you’re going to have to live with it, you have to live with that decision for five years,” noted the Agriculture Minister, who said that he is confident that the majority of persons will make the right decision, as unlike New Democratic Party (NDP) politicians, he does not have to search very hard for positive things to talk about that the ULP has done.

“Own the campaign and owning the campaign means to tell people to continue to vote for Labour,” encouraged Caesar, who revealed that when he became eligible to vote, he flew from neighbouring Barbados to vote for the first time.

“I voted in New Grounds and voting for the first time was a deep experience. The ULP has never disappointed the people.”

Caesar, a lawyer turned politician, said that this Government has built low and no income houses and many persons have benefited from this initiative. He noted also that the Government has provided the means for every child to get an education while they are building an international airport that will help to further develop the country.

“These are the things that should run in your head between now and Election Day to determine who you vote for. When I go to vote, I will visualize coming here on a jet,” said Caesar, who opined that the NDP candidates are “scared and panicking.”

“Even the NDP candidates know ULP is better by far. When they listen what is coming from us, they are ashamed. They have a little following because they have nothing to show people”, Caesar told the gathering.

In endorsing Gonsalves, the ULP’s pick to replace Clayton Burgin in East St George, Caesar said that “Camillo is a man who is an excellent professional, a hard-working man,” whom he has worked with and who has shown, “energy and spirit and drive.”

He said that he is confident that Gonsalves, the son of Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves, will keep the East St George seat in the ULP and will do so, “by close to 1,000 or more votes.”

Caesar stressed that the younger Gonsalves has been endorsed for his professionalism, not only in SVG, but regionally and internationally.

Some political pundits have tipped senator Gonsalves ahead of Caesar to take over leadership of the ULP when the elder Gonsalves steps down.

“The NDP has a little dirty strategy where they want to divide Saboto and Camillo, but that will not happen as long as I am alive,” said Caesar, before leaving the platform.(LC)
