âI put in a lot of hard work and used my break time and lunch hour to do it. I feel so glad and I will like to come to HYPE againâ, said Bacchus on Friday, after collecting the prize money from the NTRCâs operations manager Lesrene Charles, while the NTRCâs administrative officer Andra Keizer looked on.
The Form 5S student at the SJCK hails from Richland Park.
HYPE is a teen programme held annually by the National Public Library. The theme for this yearâs programme was âTechknow Teens: Web Designâ. The programme ran from August 10 to August 21 and had 30 participants between the ages of 13 to 15 years old.
At the launch of the programme, director at the NTRC Apollo Knights told participants that he would reward the best website design.
According to coordinator of HYPE Dana Neverson, the objectives of the programme were to inspire a positive attitude in teens, thereby exposing them to tools that can be used to reach their goals, to demonstrate the importance of technology in their daily lives, to provide an important skill to teens that may increase their job opportunities, to provide a positive environment for teens to learn and share ideas and to promote reading as an integral part of success.
Neverson said that the NTRCâs contribution to the HYPE programme was greatly appreciated, as it gave the participants an added incentive.
âThey learned to create a website and were given the opportunity to be awarded for their hard workâ, said Neverson.
