Eustace opens campaign office in East Kingstown
President of the New Democratic Party (NDP) Arnhim Eustace has promised his supporters in East Kingstown that they will see more of him now that he has officially opened a campaign office at Sion Hill.
The NDP leader also stressed that the new office, which was defaced with red paint on July 22, this year, during the refurbishment process, will be left as is, as the space is open to anyone who wants to visit.{{more}}
âWe have to reach out to all our brothers and sisters, whether they be ULP, Green Party, Republican Party, NDP or no party; we have to reach out to all and at the end of that, we will win the elections in St Vincent and the Grenadines,â said Eustace while speaking last Friday, October 2, during a ceremony held to officially open the new office.
Going on, Eustace said that persons have been complaining that they donât see enough of him in East Kingstown, but that is going to change.
âPeople tell me they donât see me enough and they donât see me at all. I want to point out that I represent all the constituencies in St Vincent and the Grenadines and not only East Kingstown, my constituency. I have a responsibility to visit all constituencies,â said Eustace to a small gathering inside the new space and to persons listening outside via a public address system.
The Leader of the Opposition said that while he has not paid many visits to his constituency, he has carried out visits in other places and it has benefited the party, but it is now time to work in his constituency.
âYou would see me more often now. I reach back home, so you will see me sometimes walking around by myself and sometimes with others,â said the NDP frontman, who revealed that while moving about the country, he has become even more confident that the NDP will win the next general elections, which are constitutionally due by March 2016.
Said Eustace, âthere is a feeling in the air when Iâm walking down the street, whether in Kingstown or Chateaubelair or wherever, that there is something different, something is changing.â
He said that on a daily basis, beginning in the next few weeks, the NDP will set out its policies and programmes as they move forward to elections. It was also revealed that campaign and committee meetings will be held every day this month.
âWe are taking this exercise very seriously, because we have to remove the Unity Labour Party (ULP) from Government in the interest and development of the people,â he noted, while adding that in his opinion, the ULP has demonstrated an inability to improve lives and create jobs for Vincentians.
âThey donât know what to do. Today more businesses closed in St Vincent and the Grenadines and I heard 40 something businesses closed, but it is not 40 something but hundreds,â stressed Eustace, while adding that small farmers who no longer have an outlet to sell or export their produce must be counted as a small business failure.
He said that in his opinion, our country of over 100,000 people has a very high rate of unemployment, which he puts at between 30 to 50 per cent. He opined also that under employment (persons working one or two days a week) is very high and stressed, âthe NDP is going to change that.â
The Opposition Leader also spoke about what he considers to be a rising crime rate.
âI am very upset about the crime. I wake up every morning and something is going on and no country can continue like that. Our people are beginning to get immune when they hear somebody get shot down and most people donât bother anymore and they have become hardened. We will extend a helping hand,â stated Eustace, who spoke about the soon to be highlighted NDP Social and Spiritual Redemption Charter, which he said will be revealed in a ceremony around November 26.(LC)
