WPP’s inaugural charity event hailed a success

As persons bade farewell to the last “Blood Moon” for the next three decades, many were present at the Flowt Beach Bar to welcome a new addition to the entertainment calendar in St Vincent and the Grenadines.

The super moon going into an eclipse did not dim the spirits of the persons gathered at Flowt in Ratho Mill on Sunday, evening for SOCA – Saving Our Children All-over,{{more}} the inaugural charity fund-raising event organized by the World Pediatric Project SVG and hosted by international soca artiste Skinny Fabulous.

Patrons to the all-inclusive affair, which raised monies for critically sick children from this country and across the region, had nothing but praise for the event and proclaimed that they anticipated that it would, in the future, be a staple of the local entertainment scene.

Uncle Skinny, as he is known to the young ones, welcomed patrons and thanked them for attending, reminding them that their attendance meant a lot to the children who have benefited from the work of the WPP over the years.

The reigning ragga soca and soca monarch also entertained the audience with some of his recent hits, backed by the music of Xtreme FM radio personality and DJ Top Notch Swift, and Platinum Sounds.

Some of the children who benefited from the WPP were accompanied to the event by parents and guardians and publicly expressed their gratitude to the organization that came to these shores in 2002. They also urged those in attendance to continue supporting the WPP in its future ventures.

St Vincent and the Grenadines has been the hub of WPP operations in the region since 2002 and has performed thousands of assessments and hundreds of surgeries on children, free of cost, during that time.

Those needing advanced and additional treatment have been flown to the United States, where they were taken care of.

Earlier this month a team of urologists visited and performed 12 surgeries at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital, seven of which were on Vincentians.

In November this year, a team of orthopaedists will arrive here to deal with a number of bone issues, in particular scoliosis.

WPP SVG chief development officer Simon Carey also thanked persons for turning out, and indicated that SOCA is definitely intended to be an annual affair.

He thanked all the individuals, groups and businesses that played in part in making the inaugural SOCA a success.
