PM gives clues to election date
Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves has pointed Vincentians to two books of the Bible for clues to the date of the next general elections.{{more}}
âI am going to give you two scripture readings this evening and inside of those readings is the answer to the date of the next elections. I donât joke when I tell you Iâm in prayerful consideration,â Gonsalves told party supporters Sunday at a rally at the Redemption Sharpes playing field.
The Prime Minister, who is seeking a fourth term in office, told the large gathering that clues to the date rest in the book of Phillipians chapter four, verses six and seven and in the book of Proverbs, chapter four, verse nine.
He advised listeners that when he says chapter four, they should remember that he is seeking a fourth term.
âTo have elections you have to open the door with dissolution of Parliament…â.
Philippians chapter four, verses six and seven read: âDo not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.â (NIV)
âAnd then, having opened the door to when we come to you, on the day, I want to read a short one from Proverbs chapter four and verse nine.â
Proverbs chapter four verse nine reads: âWisdom will set a garland of grace on your head and present you with a crown of splendour.â(NIV)
â… I want you to remember that the whole of chapter four of Proverbs is a challenge to hold on to wisdom, not to ignorance, not bad boyism, not cussing and pulling and down, but wisdom, which is a grace.â
Explaining why he chose the passages of scripture, Gonsalves said Paulâs letter to the Phillipians was written in the year 61 â in the year of our Lord.
He added the book of Paulâs letter to the Phillipians is a book joy and on a personal level, a book of thanks.
âAs I open the gates to the Governor General to dissolve Parliament and whenever date that happens, inside of this, there are clues. When I have a rally and announce the date of the dissolution, you will have the clues. You will see how the clues come to life.
âI am saying thanks to you like Paul said thanks to the people of Philippi,â Gonsalves said.
âWhen you are in prayerful consideration and when you ask the Father who is in Heaven to speak, your servant Ralph is listening. I listen and I am directed to certain things…,â the Prime Minister said. (KW)
