Each day many of us make strenuous efforts to adjust our diets and lifestyles to ensure healthy living and wellness. No one wants to face the daunting reality of being sick or even more so, hospitalized.{{more}} However, almost daily, many individuals have to battle with the diagnosis of cancer. To many of us, it seems like a threatening word that defines oneâs character or even a compelling sentence given by an anonymous juror.
Cancer is often characterized as a class of diseases characterized by out-of-control cell growth. There are over 100 different types of cancer and each is classified by the type of cell that is initially affected.
We have all grown to appreciate the fact that we need one another, whether in sickness or in health. We all need the encouragement and prayers of others. Thus, we must realize the need for support for individuals and family members struggling with a diagnosis of cancer. Having cancer is often one of the most stressful experiences in a personâs life. However support can help many people cope with the emotional aspects of cancer by providing a safe place to share their feelings and challenges and learn from others who are facing similar situations. Receiving a cancer diagnosis often triggers a strong emotional response. Although some people experience shock, anger, and disbelief, others may feel intense sadness, fear, and a sense of loss. Therefore, it is important that we remember the many individuals battling cancer as they embark on this journey.
Do you promise to be there from the onset of a diagnosis, through the progression of treatment? Do you vow to hold their hands, reassuring them that they are not alone?
