Dr Onu’s ‘Attract Freedom’ sessions a success
While most students and teachers were using their summer vacation for rest and relaxation, others made use of some of their time learning how to overcome adversity and learning other life developing skills â with motivational speaker Dr Ken Onu.{{more}}
Onu, director of the Attract Freedom franchise, conducted three sessions with a wide cross-section of Vincentian students and educators, passing on personal development techniques, which could help the participants through their daily lives â especially time spent at their various educational institutions.
Girls who attended the annual Soroptomist International camp at the Girl Guides headquarters at Level Gardens benefitted from a well-received visit from Onu, who inspired the youngsters with instructions on healthy relationships at home and at school.
Dr Onuâs next session was an all-day engagement with the various executive members of the Vincentian Students Associations (VINSA) of the University of the West Indies at Cave Hill in Barbados, St Augustine in Trinidad and Tobago, and Mona in Jamaica.
He used the opportunity to train the students in leadership, time management, and memory building, as well as other skills that would make a usually stressful university life more manageable.
Onu then spoke with teachers employed at the School for Children with Special Needs, and enlightened them on methods that would enable them to interact more effectively with other teachers, students and parents.
After all the sessions, the participants all thanked Onu for his words of wisdom and insight, which they promised to use in their daily lives and interaction with others.
The sessions are part of the build-up for a major presentation by Onu in the not too distant future. (JJ)
