US$2 million in grant aid agreed on by Japanese government

The government of Japan has agreed to provide US$2 million in grant aid to the Government of St Vincent and the Grenadines for use in the development of small and medium enterprise.{{more}}

Minister of Foreign Affairs Camillo Gonsalves made this announcement last Friday at a media briefing.

“Essentially, we signed a contract for Japan to provide US$2 million… to be utilized for the procurement of technologies and items and materials from Japan for use in St Vincent and the Grenadines,” explained Gonsalves.

He said that the Government is trying to programme the money for a number of small projects, utilizing a maximum of US$100,000 each.

According to Gonsalves, a number of schools have already made application to the grant to improve their technology laboratories and libraries, along with applications from a number of state entities, recreational facilities.

Expressing his gratitude to the government of Japan, he also noted that the scope exists to have this grant renewed in the future.(JSV)
