Fancy farmers to launch co-operative

The farmers of Fancy are set to launch FAVFCO – Fancy Vegetable Farmers’ Co-operative with sponsorship from Digicel.

The farmers will concentrate on providing sustenance by producing and selling seedlings of all varieties to surrounding communities.{{more}}The group will also be maintaining the Fancy Government School’s Garden Project, where they will donate produce grown to the school’s tuck shop.

“The farmers of Fancy are now embarking on a new path in agriculture, paving the way for a more focused and businesslike approach in making our farm family’s livelihood more meaningful and sustainable,” said Marsha Williams, president of FAVFCO.

“The main objective of the co-operative is to produce vegetable seedlings to farmers in the Fancy community and surrounding villages at an affordable cost throughout the year.

“We think that this is a great initiative by the farmers of Fancy,” says country manager John Gidharry, “and Digicel is proud to align with FAVFCO to promote healthy eating habits in our communities.”

Gidharry also committed to continued support of the farmers, which includes staff participation on a regular basis, while ensuring constant communication by providing handsets and monthly credit, free of cost to the farmers in the co-op. Digicel continues to throw its weight behind communities and entrepreneurs in St Vincent and the Grenadines in a meaningful and valuable way and will continue to show its support by giving back to communities.
