ECTEL turns 15 – celebrates with commitment to broadband, open access
The Eastern Caribbean Telecommunications Authority (ECTEL) will next week begin commemoration of its 15th anniversary, under the theme: âCommitted to Broadband and Open Access in a Digital World.â
The highlight of the observances for the anniversary will be a conference, to be held May 11 – 12, 2015.{{more}} It will take place at the Bay Gardens Hotel in Rodney Bay, Gros Islet, Saint Lucia and is being organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Sustainable Development, Energy, Science and Technology of Saint Lucia. Saint Luciaâs Prime Minister, Dr Kenny Anthony, will be the featured speaker when the conference opens on May 11.
Topics to be addressed during the two-day event include Broadband Development in the Caribbean; Contributions and Obligations of Service Providers to Broadband and ICT policies and plans; Regional Collaboration in Broadband and Open Access; Broadband and Internet Neutrality and the vision for ICT in the OECS. OECS Ministers, as well as other regional and international telecommunications delegates, will attend. The Fifteenth Anniversary Conference also coincides with the ECTEL Council of Ministers Meeting, slated for May 13.
ECTEL was established on May 4, 2000 by a treaty signed in St Georgeâs, Grenada by the Governments of the Commonwealth of Dominica, Grenada, St Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia and St Vincent and the Grenadines. ECTEL is the regulating body for telecommunications in its Member States and the worldâs only multi-state telecommunications regulator.
