According to a release, the Bar Association took the decision a few years ago to host a Memorial Lecture in the name of Agnes Cato – a pioneer female member of the local Bar, and a staunch advocate of women’s issues, as a mark of honour.

Agnes Cato was among the first female members of the Bar of St Vincent and the Grenadines. She worked at both the Private Bar and the Public Bar during her long and illustrious career. She served as a magistrate and senior magistrate, as well as a registrar of the High Court. She was also a former leader in the National Council of Women, and in her beloved Roman Catholic Church.

This year the lecture will be delivered by a senior female member of the Bar – Paula David, former registrar of the High Court and an additional magistrate. She has also represented numerous women in our court system. She is a senior associate of the law firm Saunders and Huggins.

This year’s lecture will take place at Frenches House on Monday, March 30, 2015 at 7:30 p.m. David will speak on the topic “When the relationship ends – The distribution of assets on the breakdown of common law unions.”

The general public is invited to attend the lecture. There will be an open forum following the lecture, so that persons would have the opportunity to pose questions to the lecturer.
