The Canouan Government School celebrated Hats off to Reading’s Literacy Week under the theme “To exceed, you must read.”

The activities commenced on Monday, February 16 and ended on Friday, February 20. Some of the activities that featured in the celebration included reading competition,{{more}} spelling competition, word games, treasure and scavenger hunts. Students were given tokens/gifts for both winning and participating in each of the activities.

On Friday, the students, teachers and parents marched from the school through the streets down to South Bridge and back. They were all adorned in decorative hats made of materials of various kinds, depicting different messages. Later in the afternoon, the event concluded with class presentations, which included choral speaking, poems, songs and dramas.

The week’s activities were coordinated by Nykita Laidlow-Small, the literacy coordinator at the school.

The next activity on the school’s calendar will be the “Numeracy week,” from 2nd to 6th March, when the focus will be on Mathematical Literacy.
