The conference, which will be held under the theme “The Garifuna, A Nation Displaced – Cultural Rights, Economic Survival and Reparations,” will take place at the Peace Memorial Hall from March 8 to 15, 2015 and will seek to celebrate the survival of the Garifuna people and culture over the past 218 years.

According to the organizers of the conference, 40 persons have indicated a desire to stay with host families during their time in St Vincent and the Grenadines.

“As a result of their great yearning to visit the ancestral homeland, 40 of our brothers and sisters from Garifuna communities in Central America (Honduras, Belize, Nicaragua and Guatemala) have indicated that they would like to participate and share the Garifuna culture with us in SVG and would like to stay with host families during their time in St Vincent and the Grenadines,” the release said.

“TGHF is appealing to the generosity and spirit of hospitality of Vincentians living in the Kingstown and surrounding areas who wish to host one or more of our brothers and sisters while they are visiting us from March 7 to 15.”

The Summit will include not only an international conference, but also a Garifuna Village in Heritage Square, workshops at the Alliance Francaise and Heritage Square, Garifuna Folk Festival and Rally for schools at Victoria Park and also a Cultural Extravagaza at Heritage Square.
