Two groups donate to Girl Guide Centenary Fund

Following the donation of funds from two units last weekend, the St Vincent and the Grenadines Girl Guide Association (SVGGGA) is steps closer to realizing its target for the Centenary Fund.

As part of their centenary celebrations in 2014, the Association opened a fund, which is expected to be used to carry out various functions of the all-girl organization.{{more}}

On Saturday, February 7, the Number 23 Ranger Unit handed over a cheque of EC$850 to the president of the Association, René Baptiste, during their investiture ceremony at Flowt Restaurant and Bar.

Only a few hours later, the Number 11 Guide Company presented Baptiste with EC$6,000 at its enrollment ceremony at the Girl Guide Headquarters at Level Gardens.

According to representatives from each unit, these funds were accumulated through creative forms of fund-raising.

“This money would go towards the centenary fund and we are hoping that by April, that they would be able to see how much money was raised,” said Baptiste, highlighting that the target is EC$100,000.

While the president said she suspects that they are behind the target by at least $70,000, she indicated that the fund will remain open even after April, for persons who wish to make donations.(BK)
