Digicel Group to open call centre

Fifty jobs are up for grabs when the Digicel Group opens a call centre here later this year.

This was disclosed during debate on the 2015 Budget on Tuesday, by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Information Technology Senator Camillo Gonsalves.{{more}}

Reading a letter dated December 1, 2014 from Andy Thorburn,chief operating officer of the Digicel Group and addressed to Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves and copied to him, the senator said Digicel will establish the call centre for the purpose of providing a cable TV and broadband help desk facility in support of their regional roll-out of these products and services.

According to Gonsalves, the call centre will be operational by the second quarter of 2015 and will employ roughly 50 persons on a full-time basis.

He noted that he has already spoken to the local representative for Digicel and was told that of the 50 jobs being offered, 45 of them will be offered to Vincentians.

“… they plan to roll out more and more cable TV across the Caribbean and whenever you are in Jamaica watching Digicel Cable TV and you have a problem and you pick up your customer service and you call, it will come to the call centre in St Vincent,” Gonsalves stated.

“The call centre is real. It is coming. Fifty jobs in the outset for the young people of St Vincent and the Grenadines. Get your CVs ready,” he advised.

Gonsalves also said that Digicel had recently acquired a number of cable TV operations across the region and expects to expand upon these over the coming 12 to 36 months.

He expressed thanks to Digicel for showing confidence in the country’s workforce and the ability of the Government’s infrastructure to handle what they plan to establish.(KW)
