Patient diagnosed with Malaria discharged from hospital

The Nigerian student who had been diagnosed with Malaria earlier this week has been discharged from the hospital and is taking medication.

The Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment in a release noted that the two blood samples which were sent to CARPHA and the in-house spot testing have confirmed the diagnosis of Malaria.{{more}}

“Since the preliminary diagnosis, the Chief Environment Health Officer and staff at the Environmental Management Department within the Ministry have activated the Malaria prevention plan,” the release said.

“… and, as a part of the management process, the professionals at the Environmental Management Department are implementing source reduction activities in targeted areas.

“The Ministry and the relevant stakeholders are continuing to work closely with the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) and the Pan American Health Organisation (PAHO) in the management of this situation and remain vigilant in this regard.”
