CARICOM invites BCCI to meet on cricket impasse

With today being the deadline by which the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) has to comply with the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) multi-million claim regarding last October’s abandoned test matches, CARICOM has invited the BCCI to meet with a committee in Grenada.{{more}}

In a letter dated January 23, 2015, Secretary-General Irwin LaRocque issued the invitation on behalf of Grenada Prime Minister Dr Keith Mitchell, who chairs the Cricket Governance Committee, which was established to address related issues.

The letter stated: “The Committee has been pursuing a resolution of the matter in consultation with the President of the WICB, Mr Whycliffe ‘Dave’ Cameron. In so doing, it has been acutely aware of the essential role that dialogue, creativity and the pragmatic exploration of options and alternatives could all positively contribute to such a resolution.”

The Cricket Governance Committee also comprises the Prime Ministers of Antigua and Barbuda and St Vincent and the Grenadines, Gaston Browne and Ralph Gonsalves, respectively.

In his letter to Sanjay Patel, BCCI honorary secretary, LaRocque assured that the “serious nature of this matter” is still uppermost in minds of those concerned; and proposed to meet in Grenada at the earliest mutually convenient date to “pursue efforts at resolving this matter amicably.”
