Representatives from most of the community organizations and individuals who held Nine Mornings activities throughout St Vincent and the Grenadines last year, gathered on Saturday at the Peace Memorial Hall in Kingstown for the prize-giving ceremony, which saw persons and groups awarded for community lighting, Nine Mornings activities, Christmas spirit, private homes, and gardens.

Also being rewarded on the day were the local entertainers who produced and sang local music to complement the season, and were hailed for their contributions to Nine Mornings over the years.

Winning the most popular local Christmas song category, based on local radio play lists, was Lennox Bowman with his song “Two Christmas in One,” putting “Christmas Gunya,” sang by Rondy “Luta” McIntosh, into second place, with “Drinkers’ Anthem” by Carlton “CP” Hall third and Rolly Bowman fourth with “One Drink.”

The best-lit garden award went to Richmond Gardens, while Jimmy Samuel of Rilland Hill won best-lit private home award. The National Lotteries Authority award for best Christmas community went to Carriere, and Stubbs won the NLA award for best Nine Mornings community.

The village of Point, situated at the northern tip of mainland St Vincent, was judged the best in the VINLEC community lighting competition, relegating Kingstown Hill into second place and the Dorsetshire Hill community into third.

Point was the winner of zone four of the competition, with Town Hill winning zone two, Rose Bank zone one, Cotton Ground zone three, and Bequia zone five.(JJ)
