Police constable to be ordained Anglican priest

Another Vincentian will be ordained to the Holy Order of Priests within the Anglican Archdeaconry of St Vincent and the Grenadines.

The ordination of Reverend Hanif Johnson to the Holy Order of Priests will take place on Monday, December 8, at 5 p.m., being the feast of the Conception {{more}}of the Blessed Virgin Mary, at the St George’s Cathedral, Kingstown.

Deacon Johnson is a graduate of the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill, Barbados, where he obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Theology; he also holds a Second Class Honours Associate of Science Degree from the UWI Open Campus, SVG.

The former Greiggs resident is a past student of the Emmanuel High School Mesopotamia and was valedictorian when he graduated in 1992. He is a Constable of the Royal St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF), having worked in several departments and credits the organizations for instilling in him discipline and obedience.

Johnson, who describes himself as a farmer, said “I enjoy farming – I rear cattle and grow crops.” He says he sees life as a gift from God – living in obedience and being of service to God.

He explained, “Being a priest is full of challenges. My hope is in the Lord, who brought me through all my difficulties. I have learnt that we are frail human beings who need the Almighty, for He is our strength.”

Johnson hopes to enter full time ministry of the Church.

Since his ordination to the Diaconate, he has been serving in the Archdeaconry of St Vincent and the Grenadines, under the supervision of the rector of the parish of St Paul, Calliaqua with St John, Belair.

Upon his ordination on Monday, Reverend Father Hanif Johnson will continue to serve in the Archdeaconry of St Vincent and the Grenadines.

The ordination will be administered by Bishop of the Windward Islands His Lordship the Right Reverend Bishop C Leopold Friday.

The newly ordained priest will celebrate his First Mass on Wednesday, December 10 at St Mark’s Anglican Church, Greiggs at 6 p.m.

Hanif Johnson is the son of Dalton and Valgina Johnson of Greiggs, and he is married to Camille Johnson.
