Deputy ill – who is acting Prime Minister?

Just who is at the helm of the ship of State?

Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves is presently in Cuba seeking medical attention for a muscular injury to his right thigh, and Deputy Prime Minister Girlyn Miguel is also reported to be unwell.{{more}}

Miguel fell ill last Friday, shortly after delivering the eulogy at the funeral of a relative. She did not report for work at the Ministry of Education this week, and the meeting of Cabinet this Wednesday, was chaired by Minister of Health Clayton Burgin.

Gonsalves left the state for Cuba on Tuesday at about midday, accompanied by his wife Eloise Gonsalves, two members of his security detail and physiotherapist Denys Byam.

Normally, when the Prime Minister is out of state, Miguel acts as Prime minister, but no announcement has been made this time around about an acting prime minister.

Gonsalves is expected to be out of state for at least two weeks.
