Trading ties with Grenada to be strengthened

St Vincent and the Grenadines is looking to strengthen the trading ties with its neighbour to the south, Grenada.

At a press conference on Wednesday, Minister of Agriculture Saboto Caesar revealed that he has received a request from a buyer in Grenada for 200 head of cattle.{{more}}

“This will be the fourth major export of cattle to Grenada from St Vincent and the Grenadines. It is a trade that started in 2012,” he said.

Caesar noted that since the relationship began in 2012, it has been a continuing process and so it is the intention of his ministry to formalize the trade through a memorandum of understanding with the Government and the Ministry of Agriculture of Grenada.

“This MOU is currently being drafted and it will have to be taken to Cabinet and, of course, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is going to play a key role in the execution of this MOU,” the Minister said.

Caesar also highlighted that the memorandum will not only be drafted to include the trade of cattle and other livestock, but also for a relationship to be forged in terms of technical assistance from Grenada in spices, particularly nutmeg, and cocoa.

“We are in the final stages of the completion of this document. We can expect to see the signing of this MOU in the near future,” Caesar told media officials on Wednesday.(BK)
