Speakers from US for sickle cell symposium
The St Vincent and the Grenadines Sickle Cell Association, a non-profit organisation will be having a symposium.{{more}}
This symposium is designed to promote awareness among the Vincentian public about the prevalence and impact of this disease and why our cause is important.
âWe are aware that a number of families have members stricken with this disease. We will be hosting speakers from the United States doing research in this area as well as speakers from our own medical fraternity,â a release from the association said.
The speakers from the USA are Dr Julie Kanter MD, assistant professor, Department of Pediatrics, Division of Hematology and Oncology, Medical University of South Carolina, who will speak on âSickle Cell Disease throughout the Life Spanâ.
Vincentian Dr Shelly-Ann Williams MD, who is based in the US, and is a Fellow, Department of Pediatrics, Division of Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine, Medical University of South Carolina will speak on âNew Approaches to Newborn Screening in St Vincent and the Grenadinesâ.
The symposium takes place tomorrow, Saturday, September 6 at the Peace Memorial Hall, beginning at 4 p.m.
