RRL members were strategically located at turn around points and along the steep descents along the main road where accidents were more likely to happen, while other radio operators used their vehicles to transport the race commissar and other team officials.

There were a few spills but not with life threatening injuries, which were reported in quick time so that the ambulance or first aid vehicle could arrive to treat the injured cyclists in quick time.

The radio operators taking part included J85M-Claude, J88AT-Tim, J88LE-Leslie, J88EA-Ronald, J88CR-David, J88DA-Justin, J88NEB-Percy, J88NJB-Jeremy, J88NKC-Karyn, J88NHO-Carol, J88NMF-Molica, J88NGR-Jose, J88NHQ-Lennox, J88NLW-Lorraine and RRL Director J88CD-Donald. J88NJB-Jeremy served as master control, coordinating all communications during the cycling event.

The RRL is a non-profit, community service organisation with a specific emphasis on emergency communications. The majority of it members are licensed radio operators who are also trained in CPR/first aid. Some of its members are also trained in damage assessment, shelter management and mass casualty management. The RRL is also an active member of NEMO’s telecoms sub-committee. The RRL will be celebrating 20 years of service to the Vincentian community in 2015.
