The youngsters were exposed to a range of subject matters during a three-day training project called “The Young Employees Socialization Training Programme.” It was initiated by the Parliamentary Representative for the West St George Constituency Cecil Mckie, coordinated by the West St George Youth for Progress and Development (WSGYPD) and sponsored by First Citizens Investment Services Limited.

The training programme ran from July 21 to 23 and catered for youths between the ages of 18 and 30 years who were just out of school/college, or simply in search of employment. They were taken through several focal points, as they prepared for choosing career paths and actual preparation for work. Presentations were made on: Choosing a Career; the Interview; CV and Resume; Business Ethics; Effective Communication; Positive Work Attitudes; Conflict Resolution; the Work Environment; Customer Services; Study Options; and Financial Management. The value of involvement in community work and voluntarism also formed part of the discussion on developing into a rounded individual.

Sessions were held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily at the West St George Secondary School, with a snack break and lunch punctuating the presentation and discussion sessions. The attendees all received certificates of participation at the end of the programme. The organizers have indicated that this will be an annual affair hereafter.
