Diamond resident succumbs to injuries in vehicle accident
Police reports state that on Saturday, July 26, Anthony John, 43, a farmer of Diamond, died on his way to the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital after the vehicle, {{more}}in which he was a passenger, ran off the road at Ratho Mill.
John was at time, in company of his stepfather, Reynold Nickie, 66, of South Rivers. Nickie sustained minor injuries and was treated and discharged from the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital.
When contacted on Wednesday, Nickie told SEARCHLIGHT that that morning, he was on his way to the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital to visit his wife.
Nickie said he was driving at about 20 miles per hour, because it was raining.
“Me been teking me time because rain was coming. Soon as I as reach to swing around the corner just close to the church, I feel like the vehicle start to pull me. Like somebody pull my hands off the steering and after that, me ainât know meself again,â Nickie recounted.
According to Nickie, right after the vehicle rode over the embankment and he was able to catch himself, he heard his stepson crying out for help.
“After that now, he (the stepson) ended up in my lap and then about four or five people come down and help take him away…,â Nickie said, adding that another vehicle helped to transport him to the hospital.
Nickie could be heard crying over the phone when asked how the family was coping with the loss of John.
“Is plenty pressure on me right now. I really canât talk about this right now. My wife teking it on right now. Me canât deal with it right now,â Nickie sobbed.
