Vincentian elected to regional credit union board
Vincentian co-operator, Lennox Bowman, was elected to the Board of Directors of the Caribbean Confederation of Credit Unions (CCCU) during the 43rd Annual General Meeting held in conjunction with the confederation’s Annual International Convention on June 24, 2014 at Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas.{{more}}
Bowman brings to the directorship of CCCU considerable experience in many areas of finance, including 20 years of credit union experience. He is the chief executive officer of GECCU and a delegate to the St Vincent and the Grenadines Co-operative League. As an active member of the movement, Bowman has represented GECCU and the Co-operative League at several local, regional and international credit union meetings. He is widely known for his people oriented focus on personal and professional development in the credit union movement and for his community outreach and development work at all levels of society.
In keeping with the recommendations of the CCCU 57th Annual International Convention, the strategic focus of the new Board of Directors will be to promote an enabling environment for the development of the co-operative sector as a critical stakeholder in the social-economic development and integration of the Caribbean, implement programmes for the sustainability of CCCU and the regional co-operative sector, and enhance public confidence in credit unions. Through the CCCU Development Foundation, co-operative programmes will be formulated to foster social and community development through projects aimed at youth and rural development, and disaster relief.
Bowman will serve a 3-year term on the Board of directors of CCCU. Other directors of the board include Aaron Moses of Grenada (president), Hally Haynes of Barbados (vice president), Clement Usher of Belize (treasurer), Joseph Remy of Trinidad and Tobago (secretary), Yvonne Ridguard-Harris of Jamaica (director), and Dana Nestor of Guyana (director).
