Carlos James selected for North Leeward
Carlos James was selected unopposed by the North Leeward Constituency Council as the Unity Labour Party’s (ULP) candidate for the North Leeward constituency in the next general elections.{{more}}
Jamesâ selection, which took place on Sunday, July 20 at the Chateaubelair Primary School, still has to be ratified by the party’s national council when it meets on July 31.
A barrister-at-law and solicitor, James entered representational politics in St Vincent and the Grenadines as a prospective candidate for the ULP in 2013.
In 2010 James was called to the Bar of England and Wales as an Utter Barrister at the Honourable Society of Gray’s Inn, and later to the local Bar in the State of St Vincent and the Grenadines as a barrister-at-law and solicitor.
He holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) with honours degree from the University of Huddersfield in the United Kingdom and read for a Masters of Law (LL.M) post-graduate degree at the City University in London, formerly in the Inns of Court School of Law.
He is also a graduate of the University of the West Indies, Mona campus Jamaica, having pursued courses in Media and Communication.
James has had a distinguished career working in the media both locally and regionally, having served as a correspondent for the Caribbean Media Corporation (CMC), formerly the Caribbean News Agency (CANA News). He is a regular contributor to various periodicals and newspapers in the Caribbean and has written extensively on health, development, politics and international relations. In 2004 he was awarded the Pan American Health Organisation (PAHO) Award for “Excellence in Health Journalism”.
He has completed several working stints internationally including two stints at the Commonwealth Secretariat headquarters in London in 2005 and 2010 respectively.
He is also a passionate advocate for human rights and is a member of the Human Rights Lawyers’ Association (UK).
General elections are constitutionally due in December 2015.
