The initiative called – âWe FM’s 2014 Youth Summer Reading Challengeâ is open to all youths aged 12 to 15.
“The station understands that in the education sector, a considerable number of our students are either shying away from reading or are not expressing a high proficiency in reading,” a release from the radio station said.
Through this Challenge, We FM Radio is trying to promote more confident and skillful young readers who can act as reading ambassadors and therefore entice more youths to be confident readers.
The entrants will be asked to fill out an application form, on which they will be required to write a very short essay which will be judged to select ten semi finalists.
These 10 will then be required to read and compete on social media – from which five will be chosen based on response.
The final five will get to spend one week in the studios of WEFM 99.9 located at Lower Questelles from Monday August 11, 2014, to Friday August 15, 2014.
During the one week period, the five youths will be trained to be more confident and skilled readers by the standards of broadcasting and will each get their chance to showcase their skills by reading a portion of the news LIVE on the station from the period August 18 to 20.
The most outstanding presenter of the final five will be adjudged the winner of the WEFM 2014 Summer Reading Challenge.
All finalists will receive a bag pack filled with school supplies, among other prizes.
Interested parents/guardians are asked to collect registration forms at WEFM’s Kingstown Office located upstairs the First St Vincent Bank, or at WEFM’s Office at Lower Questelles.
All applications must be submitted by Monday July 28, 2014.
