The National Lotteries Authority (NLA) announced last week that the Colonarie resident was the holder of the winning ticket for their draw which took place on May 20, 2014.
During the presentation ceremony on July 3, Yorke described the numerous emotions he had felt when he found out he had won.
Yorke, a police officer, explained that he was encouraged by a co-worker to play the lotto on May 20, and although he initially said that he was not going to, he ended up buying a Quick Pick lotto ticket and Super 6 ticket.
âLike two weeks after I went by Howardâs lotto booth to purchase and realized I had an old ticket in my wallet, so I decided to check it and when I check it, the lady told me she couldnât redeem the ticket. I had to go by the lotto office to redeem it and when I went, they told me Iâm the jackpot winner for May 20. I was shocked,â he said.
Yorke told media officials that he plans to use his winnings to pay off a loan for piece of land, his wifeâs student loan and possibly start building a house.
The lucky young man revealed that in the past, he had only won several hundred dollars by playing 3D and had only played lotto a few times in the past.
Although he acknowledged that some persons may view lotto as gambling, Yorke encouraged others to continue playing as he highlighted the National Lotteries Associationâs heavy involvement in many different initiatives across the country.
âKeep on playing. You never know when it will be your turn. National Lotteries sponsors a lot around the country. Sports, culture, and thing, so is a good development,â he said.
After deduction of 10 per cent government tax, Yorke was able to walk away with $300,600.
His winning numbers were 15,18,20,31,32.(BK)
