Last Saturday, as the Club welcomed its new executive at a handover dinner at the Grenadine House, president Boyle thanked immediate past president Earl Tash and his team for their contribution over the past year and vowed to accomplish the set goals of his administration.
âIt would be remiss of me not to recognize the tremendous work done by the new immediate past president and his team over the last Rotary year,â Boyle said during his acceptance speech at Grenadine House.
âI have large shoes to fill, but surrounded by my team of directors, some of whom overlap with that of last year, I am confident that we will be able to meet goals and obligations of this year.â
Boyle indicated that some of the goals include planning a number of fund-raising activities, such as the annual boat ride scheduled for this month and the annual Christmas barbecue.
He said the Club would also continue its humanitarian and educational efforts, including the Rotary Village Doctor programme, the George Phillips Award, and other new initiatives.
âLet us all be a light in this world, a world full of social and economic challenges….Let us light up the community where we expose the work of Rotary. Let us be a light to each other, our fellow Rotarians, and let us do this with humility, true dedication and commitment,â Boyle told the gathering.
Outgoing president Tash thanked the Club for the support he had received during his tenure and vowed to give his full support to the new executive.
Boyle will be supported during the upcoming year by Tash (immediate past president); vice president Don Providence; treasurer Laela Myers; club service director Lance Oliver; community service director Francois Truchot; vocational service director Joel Toney; information service director Kay Wilson; youth service director Joe Sheridan; public relations officer and president elect Shafia London-Williams; training, membership etc â Reuben John and website and archiving â Ken Onu.
The Club also said farewell to former treasurer Basil Alexander, who left these shores this week. Alexander, the former manager of the local Scotiabank branch, has taken up duties in his native Trinidad and Tobago.
The theme of Rotary Internationalâs 2014-1015 year is âLight up Rotary.â
