At a press conference on Wednesday, LIME general manager Leslie Jack said that after testing the live streaming of Fantastic Friday and H2O Wet Fete last weekend, all kinks have been ironed out, and customers can expect an almost seamless streaming of Miss Carival beauty pageant tonight, and the ragga and power soca monarch show tomorrow, both from the Victoria Park.
Jack said that the tests were fairly successful, with more than half the expected number of persons participating in last weekendâs exercise.
âI think one of the things for us in particular was the actual communication to the customers went our fairly late, so we didnât have as many persons responding, but we had at least 50 per cent of what we expected and that was fairly positive.
âThere are one or two things that we have tweaked prior to Friday to ensure that we have more persons on board, as well as the general experience is better.â
For voting for their favourite contestant in the Miss Carival show, one lucky LIME customer will win a one-year mobile pack, compliments LIME, which includes a Samsung Galaxy S5, as well as one year of free service.
The winner of the ragga soca Viewersâ Choice Award will receive an all-inclusive trip for two to St Lucia to be a part of that countryâs Carnival festivities. This would include accommodation, transportation and event passes.
The winner of the power soca Viewers Choice Award will receive a similar prize, this time to Grenada for that countryâs Spice Mas.
Jack pointed out that where live streaming is concerned, a maximum of 500 handset customers would be able to access the service, but indicated that persons who view the show online, and those who are actually at the events have the same opportunity to vote and to win.
âOne of the things about this that we are really hoping to do is to sell Vincy Mas to the Caribbean, as well as internationally,â Jack said.
âWe think that with an established activity of this nature, it would clearly create a lot more hype, a lot more interest in the countries through the Caribbean, especially in the countries with contestants of Miss Carival, and with our soca monarch growing by leaps and bounds and rivalling what goes on at the international soca monarch competition in Trinidad.
âWe would like to enhance it by establishing these programmes and activities and trust that we would see some additional benefits to St Vincent and the Grenadines by way of visitors and patrons to the CDC Carnival shows all together.â
