Fitzmore Montgomery Laborde, aka “Demus,” is making a special appeal for a safe and violence free Vincy Mas 2014.

The popular soca artiste, who goes by the stage name “Demus,” is sending out a public plea to patrons consuming alcohol to have a designated driver, {{more}}not only for Vincy Mas, but at all times when they wish to party and have a fun time.

He also stated that “during this festival, persons must remember to eat well, and drink a lot of water to prevent dehydration.

“Over the years, I did songs based on drinking rum, because it a social thing, but I am looking forward to seeing a safe and violence free Carnival; the only ammunition we need for the Carnival is money,” said Demus.

Commenting on his song “No Problem” for this year’s Ragga Soca competition, Demus stated that he wrote it while he was studying in New York back in 2012, out of thoughts that came to him: “Ah drink, ah drunk, ah pass out is no problem, mind you business.”

He stated that sometimes after a day of hard work, persons may just want to relax and express themselves, but some others would just be all up in your business.

“If a man spend his own money to drunk is no problem.”

Demus, a customs officer by profession, is a Union Island native and is the fourth of five children born to Alpheaus Nanton and the late Kathleen Nanton.

He describes himself as a people person who is approachable by anyone and enjoys basketball, cricket, football and loves music. He was also a keyboard player for the Energy Band some years back.

His first soca song was “Gal Move Your Waist,” which he released in 2001. He entered the Soca Monarch competition for the first time in 2005, with the song “You Have Fire in Your Waist.” He then placed fourth at the 2009 Soca Monarch competition with “ Rum Junke.” Some of his other songs released were “Crazy Man” in 2008 and “Tear up de place,” 2009.

His advice to the youths is to “go to school and get a proper education, education is the key in today’s world. Be persistent at what you do and shoot for the stars. Do not let anyone deny you of your dream. Keep away from drugs and crime.”
