Over $3,000 paid out at SVGS graduation
If crime does not pay, then education certainly does.
More than $3,000 in cash was paid out to outstanding students of the St Vincent Grammar School during a graduation ceremony that took place at the Kingstown Methodist Church on Wednesday.
The students, top performers in a number of disciplines,{{more}} were gifted with the traditional trophies and plaques, along with white envelopes that contained between $200 and $1,000 in cash.
One student received $1,000 from E.D. Layne and Sons, for being the top business student of the graduating class. Two other students also received $500 each from the company for exceptional academic work.
Other business places as well as past students of the school also donated cash gifts to the school, to be distributed for exceptional performances.
Wednesdayâs graduation ceremony saw 111 boys make their exit from the institution, while being reminded by Master of Ceremonies Randy Boucher, headmaster (Ag) Curtis King, as well as Phillip Jackson, the featured speaker of the ceremony, that the journey had just begun.
Kerron Glasgow was the valedictorian of the graduating class.
Apart from the highest accolade of the day, Glasgow received eight other awards, including recognition for outstanding achievements in chemistry, information technology, science, deportment, and the most outstanding student in Form Five.(JJ)
