BCK 2014 Student of the Year credits achievement to school’s teachers
A day after she was awarded with the Simon Kamara Student of the Year Award for 2014 at the Bishopâs College Kingstown, Alana Hudson still could not believe what she had accomplished.
To cheers and loud applause, Alana hardly contained her smile {{more}}when her name was announced at the schoolâs graduation on Tuesday at the St Georgeâs Cathedral.
The 16-year-old Campden Park resident also walked home with the awards for top student in Geography, Office Administration and Electronic Document Preparation & Management (EDPM).
âIt was really surprising, I mean, I know I was in the run for getting it, but still, it is an amazing feeling,â Alana told SEARCHLIGHT on Wednesday.
Alana, who wrote 10 CSEC subjects, said she is confident she will pass all 10, but noted that she just has to wait to see what happens.
âI am confident in my abilities, but we just have to wait and see what the future holds for me,â she chuckled.
With a bright future ahead, Alana disclosed that she wants to pursue studies in Art.
âI really like doing Art, but I really wouldnât mind getting into the business sector as well,â the young lady said.
She shared that while at Bishopâs College, she had her fair share of ups and downs, but stated that she knew she had to endure.
âI was a transfer student. I spent four years at Bishopâs College, but I must say it was a really good time. The teachers there were always behind us 100 per cent and I want to thank all of them,â she said.
She also thanked her mother, Cheryl Hudson, who she said encouraged her constantly and her aunt, Shariffa Hazell, who she described as a driving force when she saw her slacking off at school.
At the graduation, Vereisha Young was given the award for the student who best reflects the ideals of the Bishopâs College Kingstown.
In her reflection, Young said all the hard work throughout the years had paid off and she credited her success to the work of her teachers, who she said were always encouraging.
âOur greatest thanks to these teachers who invested their time into our lives. We have a future because of you…,â Vereisha said.
The graduation was held under the theme: âMoving forward with thanksgiving.â(KW)
