Of the 1,948 students registered, 1,934 students wrote the final exam and according to the preliminary results, 1,510 or 78.08 per cent of the students met the prescribed standard.
While speaking at a press briefing yesterday, Clyde Fitzpatrick, the focal point for CPEA in the Curriculum Department expressed satisfaction with the performance of the students.
âIâm satisfied with the progress. The percentage is quite high for our first time,â he said.
Fitzpatrick also urged parents to continue working with their children to develop basic skills such as timetables in math and reading.
The education officer noted that these basic skills were important to the development and performance of a child in their academic life.
While she commended the performance of the students that passed the CPEA, chief education officer, Lou-Anne Gilchrist urged students to continue working hard to achieve success.
âThe students have received their results and we are quite pleased that a greater proportion of students has been able to register success,â she said.
âI encourage you students who have been registered as passing the exam, not to rest on your laurels. Donât be comfortable because you have passed the CPEA. Donât be smug and complacent because you have passed. This is just one phase of your development and believe me, it is your easiest.â
Additionally, Gilchrist offered encouragement to students who were not successful in this sitting of the CPEA, stating that there will be other opportunities to display their competence.
âTo those students who have not met the 50 per cent mark, I offer my earnest encouragement. Remember that the Ministry of Education, the education system offers students multiple opportunities to achieve competence, to achieve success; so, if you have not met the criterion at this point, to demonstrate your competence, you will be given other opportunities,â the chief education officer said.
